Mot Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Mot - Essay Example In order to help unmotivated students, a process called attribution retraining is employed that involves modeling, socialization and practice exercises among others. Moreover, other potentially helpful practices can be incorporated such as portraying effort as investment rather than risk, portraying skill development as incremental and domain specific and always focus of mastery. During early childhood development, children express their concern through curiosity and explore new things. However, as children grow, their psychosocial environment influences their learning behavior and learning frequency. Many children though physically present in the classroom remain absent mentally. They do not want to invest their mind and energy towards learning things. It is therefore, important for educators to first understand studentsââ¬â¢ attitudes and beliefs towards learning and then help minimize studentsââ¬â¢ lack of concern. Understanding student motivation is very important. In simple terms, it can be defined as the studentsââ¬â¢ desire to participate in a specific task. However, it is also directly associated with studentsââ¬â¢ academic achievement. Students can get motivated in two ways: intrinsically and extrinsically. In the former case, motivation comes from rewards inherent to a task. However, extrinsically motivated students perform task to avoid punishment such as grades, teacher approval, etc. However, the phrase, motivation to learn is mainly associated with academic achievement. It does not matter whether the task is intrinsically or extrinsically motivated or not. Well, there are various factors that influence student motivation including modeling, communication, instruction, socialization, etc. In addition, home environment also shapes the studentsââ¬â¢ attitudes and beliefs towards learning. Parental care, encouragement and explaining answers to numerous

Research Proposal (300 words) and Lietrature Review (2200 words) Essay
Research Proposal (300 words) and Lietrature Review (2200 words) - Essay Example All of those perspective leaders, those with the most ambition will likely take the power. If the population is not educated they will not be able to differentiate among the perspective leaders, in order to choose those most likely to support the needs of the populace. Equally important is a free and open press, including all other mass media, such as radio and television and even the Internet. It is absolutely necessary that the populace have access to a free and open press in order to be able to follow and understand the news of what is going on within and without the country. Having access to what leaders do and what other countries do and what is going on in the world allows the populace to choose the direction in which they wish their country to go in this way they can choose the leaders that they believe will take them in that direction. Of course both of these are absolutely dependent upon a free and open and fairly honest system of election. Otherwise the people have no choic e at all. There has been a great deal of research done on the media over the past century, most of it during the past half-century. So one might say well why do we need to research the media then? The answer to this is that the media is constantly changing. Two things make major changes in media: technology and sociology. Technological changes, such as the advent of the Internet, accessibility of radio and television broadcast signals and the attendant lowering of costs for receivers, all make the media more accessible to the public and to those who would use the media to communicate with or influence the public. Sociological changes may be based in political changes, such as changes in the government or even the form of government, or changes in the dynamic culture of the society. Economic changes can influence both of these. Likewise, political and sociological changes can have powerful effects upon economical changes. In essence, a democracy, and most other forms of

Physical and chemical changes Essay Example for Free
Physical and chemical changes Essay Challenge #1 ââ¬â The Penny Problem: The first challenge to complete is the Penny Problem. The radio station is giving the winner of this challenge a prize pack that includes tickets to see his or her favorite band in concert. To start off the challenge, the radio station has placed pennies in a cylindrical glass jar. Each penny is 0.75 inches in diameter and 0.061 inches thick. If the cylindrical glass jar containing the pennies has a diameter of 6 inches and a height of 11.5 inches, how many pennies can fit inside the jar? You must show all work to receive credit. So first I want to fine what the volume of the jar is so I am going to use or Cubed inches Now we know how much space we have inside the jar. Now we have to find the volume of the pennies. Now you will divide 325 by .33 and we find that there is a total of 985 pennies in the jar. Challenge #2 ââ¬â Tennis Trouble: Now its time to move on to the second challenge called Tennis Trouble. The second challenge is to figure out how many tennis balls fit in a specially designed container. The radio station will give away a prize pack and a pair of front row tickets to the winner of this challenge! Each tennis ball is 2.63 inches in diameter. A sketch of the specially designed container is below. How many tennis balls can fit inside the container? How many more tennis balls could fit into the container if the containerââ¬â¢s dimensions are doubled? You must show all work to receive credit. In order to find the volume of this container we are going to have to use two formulas. The first formula will be so we can find the volume of the cylinder. Now we have to find the volume of the cone And after doing that I find that Now all we have to do is add the two together and we will know the volume of the container. Now we have to find the volume of the tennis balls. In order to find the volume of a tennis ball we have to find the area of it. After doing that I am going to divide 87.9 from 5.43 to find how many tennis balls will fit into the container. So a total of 16 tennis balls would fit into the container. If the containers dimensions were doubled then the number of tennis balls would have probably doubled. Challenge #3 ââ¬â Giant Gum: The Pharaoh Chewing Gum Company has decided to sponsor an additional prize in the radio stations contest. They are giving away backstage passes for the concert! Pharaoh Chewing Gum manufactures a new product they are trying to promote. The new product is a pyramid-shaped gum with a square base. In the spirit of the other challenges, the company has decided to place their pyramid-shaped gum inside a clear glass giant bubble-gum shaped sphere. Each piece of gum has a base measurement of 1 inch and a height of 0.75 inches. The glass sphere container has a diameter of 17.25 inches. How many pieces of Pharaoh Chewing Gum can fit inside the glass sphere? You must show all work to receive credit. Now to find the volume of the sphere we are going to use So the volume of the sphere is 51.8 inches Finally we have to find the volume of the pyramid gum. Now we go ahead and divide them by each other and find that a total of 207 pieces of gum fit into the sphere. Answering the Questions. 1. For the Penny Problem, how much empty space should exist inside the jar after being filled to capacity with pennies? Why doesnt this amount of space actually exist in the jar? There should only be enough room for there to be about 3 or 4 more pennyââ¬â¢s but you would not be able to put them into the jar because the pennies are going everywhere and they jar is not made to form around the pennies. 2. Where does the formula for the volume of a cylinder derive from? Give an example and provide evidence to support yourà claim. It derives from the formula of area of a circle the only difference between them is for the cylinder you have to what the height is in order to use the formula. 3. In the Tennis Challenge, a cone was used for calculations, and in Giant Gum, the formula for the volume of a pyramid was needed. Pick either the formula for the volume of a cone or the volume of a pyramid and explain where the formula you chose derives from? Give an example and provide evidence to support your claim. This equation is almost like the formula for the area of a circle crossed with the area of a triangle. The differences between them are that for a circle you donââ¬â¢t have to find the height and you donââ¬â¢t have a fraction and for a triangle you donââ¬â¢t use pie and donââ¬â¢t use the radius and the fraction is not 1/3 it is à ½. 4. In Tennis Trouble, the container used for the challenge is labeled A in the image below. If the containerââ¬â¢s shape was modified to look like container B, what effect would it have on the capacity (volume) of the container if the dimensions remained unchanged? What theory or principle helps to prove your point? Nothing because they amount of space has not changed just the way it looks has and the theory that supports this is cavallies principle. 5. In Giant Gum, the gum is shaped like a pyramid. What shape do you think would best fit into the container (choose a shape other than a pyramid). Explain why the shape you chose was better and back up your answer with proof such as calculations and writing. I would thing that balls would best fit into the container because it is shaped as a ball. Also if they were shaped as a ball there wouldnââ¬â¢t have been that much space left in the sphere.
Impact of Junk Food on Health
Impact of Junk Food on Health Junk Food Impact on Health Junk foods are called fast foods. As the name says they are easy to prepare and can be consumed very quickly. They are low in nutritional value and have fat, salt etc. in it that cause ill effect on consumerââ¬â¢s health.. The junk food advertising also plays important role in its popularity. It should be avoided at all cost because it lacks energy and important nutrients required by the body and also has many health effects too. Eliminating the temptation for junk food and developing the awareness for health fitness like going to gym regularly and banning junk foods in schools can be helping in avoid the junk food and also shifting to the healthy foods can help in avoiding it. In the UK, the food standards agency do not use the term ââ¬Ëjunk food ââ¬Ëand describe food ââ¬ËHFSSââ¬â¢ (high fat, sugar or salt). They state that has foods can form part of a balanced diet, but research show that children diet contain too much fat (especially trans fat) salt and suger. Americans eat the most fast food, but the Japanese spend the most on take away (home delivery) according to a research conducted by Euro-monitor International. The high level of per capita consumption demonstrates the importance of fast food in life style in these countries. Burger dominates the US fast food industry as it taking more than half of total fast food expenditure. There are many types of junk foods available in the market like sodas, pizzas, burgers sandwiches and French fries etc. They are many companies that provide these foods like McDonaldââ¬â¢s, Burger King, and KFC etc. There are some foods like cheese chili, pav bhaji and gyro though they are not considered as fast foods but it contain less nutritional value and are made in oils as a result of that it can be considered as junk food. There are different marketing strategies that junk food companies follow to promote it. Many of the companies like subway, McDonaldââ¬â¢s etc. offer loyalty programs. This is the most important way how they advertise it. It is based on the frequency you buy it and based on that you get a gift after some frequent visits like get a free meal etc. Another strategy they use is termed as Collectibles. With this they get customer particularly that children watch and enjoy. What they do is they find movies , cartoons and when parents buy kids meal, they provide a free gift as a result people do come back to collect all the collectibles. They also use societal marketing. According to Assistant Professor of clinical marketing in University of Southern California Lars Perner says ââ¬Å"social marketing is designed more for getting ideas across than making salesâ⬠. With the help of this consumers that relate to ideas patronize fast food restaurant in turn. Problems related with Junk foods They are many problems related to junk food: High in Fat Content: Junk foods like pizzas, chips, sandwiches etc contain high quantity of saturated fats. They fats are not easy to digest as a result of that it gets accumulated as a result of that people gain weight which results in over weight leading to obesity. All this could trigger many problems related to heart and high blood pressure etc. High salt Content: Fast foods contain salt in more quantity as required by the body. Salt results in increase of blood pressure. Too much salt is not good for body as result of people might suffer from hypertension. High sugar content: Sodas and biscuits etc. contain sugar. Everyone likes sweet taste but sugar has its own disadvantages like too much sugar rots the teeth and could trigger a lot of tooth problems like ache etc. Excessive amount of sugar increase the sugar content in the body and as a result of that people could suffer from diabetes. I personally feel that it contains sugar , salt and fat that is needed but in contrast to that it contains in excess quantity as a result of that people suffer from it. Why junk foods are popular There was a research conducted in 2005 in Minneapolis area were 600 people were interviewed and was found that there are multiple reasons why people prefer it. The chart is based on the 600 people that was interviewed in the Minneapolis in 2005 and was published on the webmd.com by Miranda Hilti. Due to following reasons people prefer junk food over homemade nutritious diet: Time: People are addicted to eat junk food in spite of knowing its harmful effects because it is easy to prepare and can be consumed very quickly. It saves a lot of time and as it is cooked in oil and contains sugar and salt, is added it to its taste. We eat it while going for job or when we do not want to cook or while watching movies etc. Taste: Moreover not only time but also its taste because of salt , sugar and oil, people prefer it. Junk foods like chips and biscuits etc do not require to be refrigated and can be put on shell. So it has more shelf life. Junk food packing is so simple that it could be transported from one place to another easily and hustles free as compared to perishable foods. Junk foods are cheap as compared to homemade food. Harmful effects of Junk food: Obesity: When people are having excess fat or weight, then person is termed as obese and is suffering from obesity. It is a global problem. Based on the research it is found that 33% of the people in the US are suffering from it. Medically normal body mass indes should be between 20-25. But when it is more than it person is termed as overweight. But when person has BM I of 30 or more than he is suffering from Obesity. All this is caused because of trans fat in the junk food. Diabetes: Junk food contains high amount of sugar as a result of it people could suffer from it. It is of 2 types Type 1 and Type 2. Type 2 is caused because of junk food consumption. Hypertension: High amount of salt is present in junk food. As a result of that when people consume junk food it increase the blood pressure of the body. Excessive amount of salt in body could lead to hypertension, which could trigger many other problems related to the heart and obesity is also a cause of it. Heart Problems: Junk food fats get clotted in the heart arteries which could increase the chances of heart attack. It takes more time to treat it and is medically expensive. Cavities: The junk food gets accumulated on tooth spaces as a result of that it forms plague and ultimately causes cavities. This is quite popular among children. It could also trigger kidney diseases related to renal or polyuria because of salt and sugar present in junk food Junk food contains artificial flavors and preservatives which could cause asthma. Junk food is prepared with lot of additives and chemicals and some people can get allergic to it and it cause skin problems like rashes etc. Overweight people could suffer from digestive cancers as well. Moreover the junk foods makers do not do anything for healthy living and people could also suffer from digestive problems like food poisoning etc. Reasons to avoid it: Lack of energy: In order to remain healthy body requires vitamins , minerals , proteins etc but junk foods lacks all these which leads to weakness in people. Poor Concentration: This is also caused result of junk food. Some people eat a lot and because of that there is lack of oxygen , nutrients which makes people dowsy and other problems. High Cholesterol: It causes heart problems as it blocks the persons arteries. It is not limited to it and also affects liver where it is metabolized. It permanently damages it. Heart Diseases : It is major cause of it because arteries gets blocked because of plague formation as a result of that heart needs to put extra effort to pump blood. But it causes lack of blood in heart and triggers heart attacks. Low nutritional Value: If you want to give a rating regarding the nutritional value then it will be 1 out of 10. When we make junk food nutritional is lost so they add syntactic nutrients to it in order to compensate which causes many diseases and effect our health adversely. Addictive: Salt and sugar are added to make the food tasty but they are highly addictive as it simulates receptors in the brain and people feel goods because the dopamine levels increases as a result of this. Many chemicals like MSG , artificial colors etc are added to prepare junk food. Medical report states that MSG causes obesity. Similarly junk foods are canned and free zed as a result of that it loose flavor so chemicals are added for flavors but it affects our health.

The Genetics of Language :: essays research papers
-ildar- The tabula of human nature was never rasa. W.D. Hamilton Language is defined as the ââ¬Å"Communication of thoughts and feelings through a system of arbitrary signals, such as voice sounds, gestures, or written symbols.â⬠Yet this alone cannot sum up the importance and vastness of this magnificent gift human own. Language is one of the most amazing features of human culture and personality; its roots have remained unchanged since the start of civilization. It is the basis of all communication in the world and in itââ¬â¢s best is the most complex form of expression. Language has always been assumed to be blatantly cultural lying at the heart of human social evolution, but this could not be farther from the truth. Language owes as much to instinct and innateness as it does to culture. Darwin once described language as an ââ¬Å"instinctive tendency to acquire an artâ⬠; this view of language was re-revealed to the world through Noam Chomsky, in his book, Syntactic Structures. Chomsky argued that language is shaped through culture, but the underlying ability to learn and understand it, is innately built into the human psyche. Chomsky concluded that there were obvious underlying similarities in all languages, bearing witness to a ââ¬Å"Universal Human Grammarâ⬠. We always use this ability to learn and use language, but we are not consciously aware of it. Vocabulary cannot be innate, because if it were were, we would all speak one, unvarying language. But lets take for example, a child; as it learns vocabulary, innate mental rules tell that child how to properly use that vocabulary. Lets take, for instance the sentence, ââ¬Å"Sa mmy will buy groceries from the storeâ⬠. You can turn that sentence into a question by moving the ââ¬Ëwillâ⬠to the front, making the sentence, ââ¬Å"Will Sammy buy groceries from the store.â⬠Young children can comfortably use this rule, even though never having been taught about the grammar involved in making a sentence like that, they just seem to know the rule. As psycholinguist Steven Pinker put it, ââ¬Å"to learn a human language, requires a human language instinct. Language is not learned through imitation; if it were then why would children who have been using the word ââ¬Å"wentâ⬠for a year or so, start saying ââ¬Å"goedâ⬠. The truth is that children start learning to speak themselves, at a much younger age regardless of our help. Children are a large part of developing a language; this was shown in a famous experiment conducted by Derek Bickerton.

Gender Roles and Hypnosis :: Barker Regeneration papers
"Gender Roles and Hypnosis" Pat Barker's Regeneration explores the internal struggles of WWI soldiers, and their attempts to overcome the trauma of war experiences. One way in which soldiers were treated for psychological trauma was with hypnosis. Hypnosis is introduced to the reader on page 51. In this particular scene, Billy Prior is attempting to convince Dr. Rivers of his specific need for hypnotherapy, in order to recall his repressed memories. By recovering these painful memories through hypnosis, Barker's male patients find themselves able to embrace emotions rather than repress them. Prior is one particular example of the need to alter masculine gender roles in order to embrace emotions and be healed, a theme present in Regeneration. Hypnosis is derived from the Greek word hypnos, which means sleep ("Hypnotism"). However, the patient does not sleep during hypnosis. It has been described as a therapeutic method, which uses the "technique of inducement of trance, which is a state of semi-conscious relaxation, at the same time maintaining sensory contact with the environment" (Bernik). Hypnosis can produce various levels of perception, increased memory, increased attention and motor functions, and "higher intellectual functions" (Bernik). Historically there have been many uses for hypnosis, as David Deegan describes. The most general is to relieve all types of physical pain. During hypnosis, many patients have described their physical pain as feeling closer to a warming sensation. Another use involves the treatment of diseases such as asthma and irritable colon. Hypnosis can also be used to control various impulses that can contribute to anorexia, obesity, chemical addictions, and sexual impulses. Finally, hypnosis can be used to treat phobias such as panic disorder and anxiety. It was widely used in this manner in WWI due to a shortage of psychiatrists, mostly for the treatment of physical pain, itching, anxiety, and the "restoring of repressed traumatic experiences which could them be dealt with and understood, helping soldiers come to terms with dreadful events" (Deegan). Coming to terms with traumatic events through hypnosis is a positive consequence of restoring memory. Barker first refers to hypnosis and its assistance in restoring memory on page 51, where hypnosis represents proof of Prior's desire to be healed. Prior is arguing that he does in fact want to get better, but he does not agree with Rivers' psychoanalytic treatment. He claims he does not remember the latter part of his service in France, and he wants Rivers to try hypnosis so that he can recall his repressed memories.
Indian Price Rises
Rising Price in India wrote by : MILAN CHATERJEE ,india from : http://www. publishyourarticles. org/eng/articles/rising-price-in-india. html Today, India is facing many problems ââ¬â the problem of corruption, the problem of unemployment, the problem of illiteracy, the problem of population, so on and so forth. The problem of rising prices is one of the most important problems that Indian is facing now. This problem is two-fold to check the rising prices and, if possible, to bring the prices down. The economists are of opinion that growing economy of the country has given rise to the rising prices. Such economy causes inflation. In inflation purchasing power runs ahead of purchasable goods. In other words, in a growing country, the supply of money increase at once but the supply of goods takes time to increase. Again the population has increased. This has further increased inflation. Because of growing population the current corruption is increasing. There is another cause of risi ng prices. The production of consumption goods has been very slowly rising. Our plants are also responsible for the present food situation. High targets were set to be achieved in defense and development. Levels of outlay on the development were suggested. No consideration was given to the existing state of economy. The pressure on real resources has been increasing. The gap between the return and investment also has its effect upon the present price situation. Thirdly, the kind of system of Government is liable to inflation. Restraint cannot be exercised in spending. Often it happens that claims have to be met mainly allocating funds. In the period of rising prices, the rich got richer and poor, poorer. The rich own the means of production. They pay the laborers handsomely. But they take of the left hand what they gave with right hand. The cost of goods swells up. The prices naturally go up. What his master gives him, the market takes. Rising prices encourage hoarding, profiteering, black ââ¬âmarketing and corruption. They discourage export. They cause devaluation of currency. Lastly, they seriously disrupt equitable distribution of wealth. The problem is very dangerous. It needs measures ââ¬â short and long term, to be adopted. These measures include as appeal mixed up with threat to the sellers, raids on go downs and other hoards of grain, the seizing of black, the cut of Rs 400 crores in central expenditure, the ncrease in bank rates to 5 %, the opining of fair price shops, the rationing of provisions, the imports of food-grains from some foreign counties, the curbing of unproductive expenditure by the Government, the readjustment in the scale of pay and the emphasis on small plants. The short term measure will help the government to hold the price-line. The long term measures will help the government to withdraw the huge amount of money pumped into circulation during the last year. Corruption has also given rise to rising prices. Analyze the news In dia has been having this economic cycle for centuries. But the issue of price of goods has been rising in India had been considered just a while ago. In the past, this economic cycle started with the problem of its population. The inequality distribution of wealth makes the poor suffer from starving as they do not have money to buy food or clothes. On the other hand, the rich just kept taking advantage of whomever underneath them. Nowadays, India has been intervened by other countries that want to help to improve the quality of life of the poor in India. Due to the better quality living of the people, they seem to have more purchasing power than before. The growing population in India, is also the result of improving quality of life, is creating a shortage of consumption goods. Because the demand increase rapidly more than the supply of goods. The increasing of population also creates more corruptions between the government and the investors, because rising price guides them the ways of making more benefits. These all situations have just creating further problems continuously from the past. It seems like these problem would never end because if they cannot fix one spot on the cycle, the other spot would never be solved.
